Helen Bolton

Helen BoltonAs a professional vocal and performance coach, Helen works with a wide range of people; from board directors to backing vocalists and signed singers and to sales managers. The issues for all are the same: with the right techniques your confidence grows, your message gets heard and most importantly your message gets remembered. She works with professionals intent on developing their vocal ability and focuses on areas such as breathing, pitch, volume, tone, resonance, and expression. These techniques can help release the un-developed voice within and result in a confident, authoritative, and powerful delivery.

Helen began using her voice at the tender age of 5 seconds when it emerged with a wail announcing her arrival into the world! Helen’s formal vocal training began at school aged 14 years. Four years later, armed with her Grade 8 in Voice, she moved on to Warwick University where she began training under a new tutor and performed in several university musicals and plays. Her real passion was for soul and blues so after university she joined an established 8-piece soul band and performed at numerous public gigs as well as at corporate and private events.

But fear not. Helen won’t set about making you a pop star, unless of course that is your ambition! In parallel to her music activities she has had an enormously successful career in marketing and sales within the corporate sector. Her extensive training during her seven years at Fujitsu/ICL coupled with a natural flair for presenting gave her the opportunity to present to audiences of all sizes. She went on to deliver training both internally and for key business partners and discovered her passion for coaching.

She moved to BBC Worldwide (the commercial arm of the BBC) in 1997 and as well as managing sales channels and marketing teams, she was responsible for producing numerous conferences and coaching the presenters to ensure the most effective delivery. Later, employed as a consultant at BBC Worldwide, she worked with corporate executives intent on improving the impact of their presentations. Her clients were drawn from across the BBC as well as household names from the small screen.

Helen set up her Vocal and Performance Coaching business in 2002 and provides tailored coaching for both presenters and singers. The voice is as individual as a fingerprint and Helen aims to make the most of that individuality by applying the right vocal techniques.

Helen has also been booked as a stage manager, assistant director and show-caller at events as diverse as live music shows, quiz shows, sales conferences and marketing launches. She has appeared in corporate videos, sung at Alexandra Palace and runs a soul singing group in Reading, Berkshire.
